The only mode of transportation in the
eastern delta (other than power boat) is by bongo, or dugout canoe.
There really is no land to walk on, and even if there were, fluctuating
water levels make it necessary to build elevated walkways, not practical
for most of the small villages in the area.
The combination of small river
channels, indigenous culture and abundant wildlife, makes the area ideal
for kayaking. Frank and I based ourselves in Curiapo for three days,
and paddled out to nearby villages in our collapsible Feathercraft kayak.
