The fragile future of the totoral

Although the totora fields in this part of the lake are protected by the Peruvian government, locals continue the harvest, destoying aquatic and bird habitats along the way.

Sadly, it seems birds who make the totoral their home are doomed. Not only is their habitat being destroyed, they are being hunted, and their eggs harvested, for food.
