Fishermen sail on offshore winds to open waters in the morning,
and return by onshore winds in the afternoon, picking up trimmed
totora reeds along the way.

Peru: Kayaking Lake Titicaca

Rescued

Despite Frank's attempts to make me relax (employing his favourite "Come on Linz, what's the worst thing that could happen?" technique), I couldn't fully enjoy our spectacular surroundings for fear of spending a cold night lost in the kayak.

We eventually made our way out of the thicket of totoral and met a fisherman, the wind filling his boat's plastic tarp sail, who agreed to take us across a section of open water to the opening of a canal leading to the village of Rio Ramis. It was then we realized that there were two Rio Ramises: one the river, the other a village - not on our chart - named after the river.
